If you have clients arriving at your commercial space and considering doing business with you, a professionally-maintained garden is the perfect way to show them that you mean business and that you take pride in how your space looks and feels. Not only does it make a great impression on potential customers, but proper maintenance can also help create an inviting environment for staff, visitors, and clients alike.

First impressions matter, which is why a tired, overgrown garden attached to your commercial premises could severely impact your first impression when it comes to new clients. If you'd like to know more about the benefits of professional garden maintenance, we've collected some information to provide you with an informed decision.

           The importance of commercial gardening

The primary benefit of a tidy and well-maintained business garden is being able to put your best foot forward with clients and to leave a positive impression before they even walk through the door. The importance of professional garden maintenance is often overlooked, but here are some fundamental reasons you should be keeping it at the forefront of your property decisions.

              Accessibility

Imagine this: a client is arriving at your business and they're eager to engage with you. Alas, they can barely even make it to the front door! If your pathways are overgrown, branches are overhanging, or your turf is uneven, these inconveniences can be extremely frustrating and off-putting to your clients, which is why it's important to bypass these issues with regular lawn mowing, pruning, and other maintenance.

              Conveying a particular image

Professional gardens will project an image of a reliable, organised business. If you want to send a message to your clients about what your company stands for, you can do this through your gardens. If your business has particular associated colours, you can even carry these colours over into your garden by way of flowers, for a uniform look through commercial gardening.

              Attracting customers

If you've got a well-maintained, visually interesting, and professional garden, you've already won half the battle of convincing potential clients that you can be trusted. Since visual representations of your business can often engage passersby, you can get customers in the door with the help of a visually pristine and appealing business front.

Skip out on the hard work that comes with commercial gardening

Because commercial gardens are often larger and more complex than your average home lawn, it's more often than not that you'll require the expertise of a professional to keep them maintained to a high standard. You'll easily save yourself all the trouble and consideration that comes with planning business gardens by hiring a team to do the work for you, with teams that will already have an extensive understanding of gardening and commercial gardens and will be able to help you attract new customers.

When maintaining your professional garden, you're essentially signing up for free advertising for your business, completed by professional commercial landscapers who understand the aesthetic and functional benefits of a perfectly planned outdoor space.

Maintaining a garden can be a daunting task, especially if you've fallen behind on the seemingly never-ending upkeep. However, for those with disabilities or difficulties performing physical tasks, it can become downright impossible.

That's where NDIS garden maintenance services come in. With the help of professionals, you can ensure that your garden is regularly maintained by having assistance with daily services such as mowing, weeding, and trimming. In this blog, we'll explore what NDIS garden maintenance is, how it works, and how it can benefit you if you’re on the NDIS plan.

NDIS stands for National Disability Insurance Scheme, a government-funded initiative designed to offer financial assistance and resources to individuals with any significant and permanent disability. An NDIS service provider offers a range of home maintenance services, including minor garden maintenance or light gardening. These services are available to Australian citizens, permanent residents, and eligible visa holders who are NDIS participants and require assistance with tasks like weeding, mowing, or trimming.

NDIS garden maintenance can cover the following services:

              Lawn maintenance & care

General landscaping services allows for the transformation of outdoor spaces into functional and visually appealing areas, which can significantly increase the overall value of the property.

NDIS lawn mowing services are an integral part of comprehensive yard maintenance. Regular lawn mowing not only enhances the visual appeal of your outdoor space but also ensures a safe and functional garden environment.

           The importance of NDIS gardening

A garden that hasn’t been correctly maintained can pose a health and safety risk over time. If weeds overgrow wheelchair access points, uneven turf affects mobility across lawn spaces, or branches and roots block walkways, these hazards could cause issues with independent living. Disability resources like NDIS garden maintenance can ensure that these issues won’t arise, and you can continue living within a safe environment.

NDIS gardening services don’t just maintain your garden, they also maintain your safety, independence, and comfort. Some of the benefits include:

              Keeping you independent

NDIS gardening services enable NDIS participants to live in well-maintained spaces, enhancing not just the aesthetics but also the therapeutic value of their gardens. A well-kept garden serves as a calm, ordered environment, that helps add an attractive element to promote the value of one's living space.

              Maintaining safety

One of the key aspects of home maintenance is ensuring a safe outdoor environment. An NDIS gardener works to remove potential hazards around your home, significantly reducing safety risks associated with an overgrown or unkempt garden.

For many residents, including those in Brisbane, gardens are not just about aesthetics but are spaces of comfort and community interaction. A well-maintained garden, ensured by NDIS gardeners, allows for ongoing engagement with neighbours and the wider community while guaranteeing safety and accessibility.

Brisbane has a thriving insect environment which will inevitably take a toll on the plants growing in your garden and lawn. If you’ve noticed bites taken out of your plants or ant hills on your lawn, you would understand the struggle of keeping these pesky insects from plaguing your garden. A simple and effective way to deter insects is waiting to be discovered in your morning cup of coffee. Recycling your household’s coffee ground waste can be useful as organic matter to your garden. Snails and slugs are sensitive to the caffeine found in coffee grounds - by sprinkling them through your garden you can put an end to their feasting habits. Ants hate walking over them, so pouring a ring of coffee grounds around ant hills on your lawn will discourage their presence. And, if you’re inclined against feline visitors, you can use coffee grounds to humanely prevent cats from using your garden or lawn as a litterbox. Cats are repulsed by the strong scent, so spreading grounds through your garden will keep them away.

Continuing the use of breakfast consumables, we recommend reusing household rubbish like eggshells. If you commonly eat eggs for breakfast, leftover eggshells can be used to nourish and feed your garden. Eggshells are high in calcium properties, as well as beneficial minerals and vitamins. They can be used on both your lawn and your garden to help them thrive. Many expect results by simply breaking up eggshells and placing them in the kerbside recycling bin or on garden soil. Eggshells can be used this way, but there will be a slower process before you see any changes. The shells will need to start the decaying process before they truly prove useful. You can either give them time to break down in a compost bin or your recycling bin, or you can ground them up and bury them in your soil to provide nutrients. This method works best for garden beds.

Plants, I assure you, are not picky. They won't mind drinking up your household's recycled water. Brisbane often sees blistering summers which will do a number on your garden and lawn. If you wash your vegetables or rice before making a meal, use a bucket or container so you can keep the leftover water for your garden. Utilising recycling services to avoid harsh detergents or soaps, you can also reuse washing-up water, especially if you rinse your dishes to put them in a dishwasher. Your garden and lawn will thank you, and the money you use on water bills will be well spent.

If you use single-use plastic bottles and plastic bags throughout the week, you could DIY some creative ways to make useful tools out of this apparent household waste. Drilling holes in the lids of plastic bottles and filling them with water to create a handy drip irrigation system will keep your plants growing and happy. You can also recycle old milk bottles by cutting them up into garden scoops; just be mindful of any sharp edges. If your newly planted seeds need some care while they grow, you can put plastic bottles around their growth site for seedling protection. Any small plastic strips or wooden ice cream sticks can even be used as garden labels—plastic containers can also be recycled and used as quirky feature pots themselves. There are endless opportunities to use your household's recycled materials in your garden.

The River City is a beauty, for sure, but she does have a unique subtropical climate that can make the prospect of planting a successful hedge quite daunting. If you've been wanting to add a hedge to your property for privacy, noise reduction, or to cut through that biting western sun, we have some tips on which evergreen foliage is up to the task.

Let's kick things off with a classic – you really can't go wrong with a lilly pilly for hedging. There are a wide variety of plants that belong to the lilly pilly family, with the advantage that all are native to Australia, and all are excellent hedging species. Its small, glossy, green leaves lend to a classic styling that is often seen in traditional hedges. The Resilience species is bred specifically for hedging, having been propagated for dense branch growth all the way down to ground level. Its full height of four metres makes it a great screening plant, blocking out nosy neighbours. The key to making a lilly pilly work for you is initial care – make sure you clip it frequently at first, and you will set yourself up for minimal maintenance down the track.

For something a bit different, the blueberry ash is a fine choice. This species is native to South-East Queensland, so you can be sure it's perfectly adapted to Brisbane's climate. Each plant only grows to a maximum of eight metres and only requires maintenance every 3-4 months. While the blueberry ash yields appealing bell-shaped flowers in spring, followed by a small blue berry at the change of the season, its stand-out feature is its spear-shaped leaves. The new growth blooms red then turns dark green with an eye-catching white border. When establishing your blueberry ash, keep it well mulched and watered. Once mature, it will be able to survive on natural rainfall. This species thrives in full sun with a twice-yearly helping of a native-friendly slow-release fertiliser. For nice dense coverage, plant each sapling one metre apart.

You can tell from its nickname that this particular plant is an ideal hedge plant. Purpose-bred for screening, the viburnum is a dense, quick-growing, low-maintenance plant that still boasts pretty enough foliage to keep it interesting. Viburnum is a hardy species, as it can tolerate full sun, part shade, and a whole variety of soils and growing conditions. Its larger leaves give it a less formal look than some more traditional hedging plants, but the bronze cover of its new foliage makes it mighty pretty to look at.

If you're after a hedging plant that has some serious pizazz, photinia red robin is the ideal choice for you. This stunner of a species changes colours with the seasons, blushing red with new foliage that fades to bronze before busting through with a brilliant green. You also have the option of letting this species run a bit wild and woolly if that's the look you're after – not all plant hedges need to be formal! The red robin reaches about three metres in height and is a speedy grower, so if you want good coverage in a shorter amount of time, this is a great option. Photinias prefer full sun but will also withstand part shade. For best screening, plant them one metre apart and watch the magic happen.

We know what you're thinking – why the heck would anyone choose a running plant for hedging? Isn't it going to take over my whole yard? Friends, this is not always the case if you know what you're looking for. Bamboo can be a fantastic hedging plant: you just need to be mindful of the variety that you choose. Slender weavers' bamboo is ideal if you want to block out neighbours on a taller block, as it grows to about 6-8 metres depending on weather and soil conditions. While bamboo has the advantage of not needing regular clipping, there are some things you need to be mindful of. They tend to get a little bit messy with their leaf litter, and once they are planted and established, they are very tricky to get rid of. On the flip side, you'll fall in love with the sound of cane rustling in the wind and the gorgeous, dappled slight when the sun shines through it.
